Perhaps the best part was the first half of the first book when it was all mechanic and strategy based with only 1 character. Even professionally narrated, it felt like a loose soulless disjointed spastic pile of angst. So I decided to try another litRPG and picked Awaken Online as my next venture, and having finished book 2 (precipice) oh boy. I know Nick Podehl is an amazing narrator but I read huge portions of the books when I couldn't listen or wanted to get through exciting chapters quicker, and even then it was good so it can't have just been all nick. I felt like I was in the land while reading his books. I guess its hard to explain but like with other professional writing I felt drawn into his world. The characters were engaging and none of it was so cringe that it pulled me out of the story. I listened to all 8 of chaos seeds and although after doing research I agree Kong is an asshate, aside from a FEW moments of cringy granpa gamer lingo, and aside from the fact his books are 15% "My love", "amazing", and random "though"s tacked onto the end of sentences, and aside from his most recent book being awful, his writing still felt professional. So I have been an avid reader since middle school, and I love MMOs but I didnt even know about litRPG until recently.
