![]() So far I've replaced the fuel pressure regulator as I'm sure I read that somewhere as the source f this problem (appreciate any feedback if that is wrong). My Wife's Mini One D 1.5 3 cylinder 5 door had the engine light come on and its saying the MAF is out of range and we took it to a local garage who said there were multiple codes which didn't make sense and we should take it to a specialist (maybe they suspected this problem and didn't want to get involved, can't blame them).Īnyway hunted around the net and found this chat forum and on checking a number of things I confirmed we to have this stupid diesel in the wiring loom along with in the ECU (wow that was fun to open up to check if it had got in there which it had). Hi There this is my first ever posting but its in this same topic of Diesel in the wiring loom. I really like my car but personally I would not buy a BMW until this issue is fixed.Īn out of the blue repair bill that could potentially cost £7000 or more and maybe multiple times is simply not worth the risk. Warranty does not cover an endemic design defect. I would advise any current or future BMW owner to ask BMW to guarantee that they will cover the cost if this fault happens post purchase.īMW will revert to the "Out of Warranty" excuse, which I would argue does not apply. It is of no benefit to the owner and can render the car undriveable and unreliable.Īnyone else out there suffering from Diesel in ECU and Wiring loom or EGR valve issues? Why has BMW not negated this issue with a redesign and recall.Īnd don't start me off on the EGR valve which is an absolute nonsense. My car is the X1 which has only done 62000 miles.Įven after the repair, there is no guarantee the same catastrophic failure won't happen again and soon. ![]() Research shows that this fuel sensor failure, subsequent catastrophic failure and eye watering cost to repair is common enough throughout the various BMW models including Mini, especially given that some incidents go back several years, that you have to assume BMW are aware of this, in my opinion, design defect. Had I have known about this beforehand I would not have purchased a BMW. Then a permanent Drive Train alert and forced reduction in power.Ĭost of repair estimated between £2,000 and £7,000 with a risk it could be as high as £10,000.Īppears this is more common than you would think and in my opinion is a design defect. The diesel spread throughout the entire loom including the ECU.įirst indications were a few spurious Drive Train alerts, over a few days, which all cleared very quickly with no loss of power. Neither the EML light or the emissions light have ever come on.A fuel pressure sensor has failed, which then allowed diesel to enter the wiring loom. 5000 miles later the car is still running fantastically. BMW then replaced all the valvelifters under waranty, one of the spark plugs was damaged and did not fire so they replaced all the high performance spark plugs as well and did a compression check as well as a diagnostic check, everything incl the lambda sensors showed up fine. ![]() After some hard driving the engine went into a serious misfire and triggered the ASC light and I managed to limp it back to the dealer (approx 5 miles) on 3 firing cylinders nursing it as well as I could. BMW investigated but no constant errors showed on the diagnostics, although it showed a misfire code on 1 cylinder (this intermittent misfire caused the ASC to trigger). 1500 miles later I noticed a tappet like noise at high rpm, and sometimes the ASC light would come on at low speeds and the car would loose power and stutter. Did half a normal run-in with the mod (although it should technically not be necessary). I have an 04 MCS on which the JCW 210 kit was fitted after 10000 miles. Sorry to go off topic, questions for Oldmots. I drove it yesterday and it felt really gutless - even more than usual, I drive a Fabia vRS - and it sounds to me like a rear wheel bearing is rumbling which explains the noise.Īnyway, is there any DIY we can do to reset the throttle body/ECU? - I'm hoping it needs to relearn/initialize something.Ĭould it be that the earlier EML light was caused by bad fuel and not the loom and the cat convertor has been destroyed?Īny suggestions? It's out of warranty and I don't want it to get too expensive. Since she got it back she said it's been slow and noisy. I had to speak to a BMW tech as when we picked it up, I checked under the bonnet and they hadn't bolted the earth leads on the new loom down properly he said that replacing this wiring loom was a fairly common fault and that hardly any BMW's were affected by the petrol problems. She took it into BMW and they assured her that it was not due to the Tesco petrol issues (although she filled up at the affected garage) and instead replaced the throttle body wiring loom. ![]() A few weeks ago my friend's 2003 52 reg Mini Cooper (~30k miles) had the EML light come on and was running rough/lumpy. ![]()
